Chase Your Dreams

Twenty-nine months of a player who stops, and the four words he wrote on a shoe.

WE HAVE TWENTY-NINE MONTHS OF JALEN SUGGS IN A TUNNEL. WE FILMED A SMALL FRACTION OF IT.

The first frame is November 2023. A grey practice shirt, a corridor, Christian at the rail, and a player bending at the waist to get down to his height. There is nothing in it to suggest it would still be happening two and a half years later.

Two weeks later there is a ninety-second window — six photographs and two clips, the first stamped 6:16:48 in the evening and the last 6:17:06 — in which he signs a card, signs a jersey, and leans in for a photograph without being asked twice. Eighteen seconds of a professional athlete's evening. We kept all of it.

He signed a game-worn shoe for Christian on 1 April 2024, the camera was running for all of it — the orange shoe held up in his left hand, the marker in his right, and four words going down above the signature.

Chase your Dreams! A few moments later it sits in a case beside a signed photograph. Most of what we keep is a record of something that happened. What happened that evening was beyond special to one young fan.

Caeden is in this too — in the playoff lighting in May 2024, beside his brother in February 2025, and holding a card out hoping to be signed two years after that first encounter.

By 2026 Christian had it down to an art form, bringing cards taped inside a binder. These cards are meant for a special place in the museum after protection by encapsulation, to be displayed, but not sold. They are blessings from one of the boys absolute favorite NBA players.

On a Sunday afternoon in January 2026 Jalen came up the tunnel in a washed hoodie with 3:16 across the chest. We noticed because we have our own version of it; two episodes of Museum Diaries were built around a trip to the Vatican, and it would be a strange sort of honesty to film that and leave this out on the grounds that it is private. It is private. So was ours. The Museum makes no claim about what Jalen Suggs believes. It records what he wore, on an ordinary Sunday, on his way to work. It resonates with my boys.

The most recent file is 9 April 2026. Same corridor, same player in a white practice tank, and a wall of arms — notebooks and jerseys held out over a rail by grown men. Christian is in there somewhere, holding his own. That is what happens to a player who becomes worth queuing for. The earlier files matter because they were taken before there was a queue.

These are only the days we had a camera out. He is so kind and stops often enough that him stopping stopped being an event that needed filming.
A museum can authenticate a signature. It cannot authenticate a character. What it can do is keep a record long enough that the pattern stops looking like luck — and then be honest that the record is the small part of it.

"Are You Blessing Me Another Card?"

A friendship built one tunnel visit at a time, sealed with a gold vinyl one-of-one.

Christian had met Jalen Suggs in the tunnel many times before this card ever existed in our world — and somewhere in those meetings, Jalen became one of his favorite players in the league.

It wasn't a one-time thing. Every single game, without exception, Jalen would stop and say hello to Christian. He'd sign whatever card Christian held out for him, no hesitation. Eventually Christian started bringing him cards to keep — not to sign, just to give. Jalen caught on fast. "Are you blessing me another card?" he'd ask, and Christian would nod back, enthusiastic every time.

I knew Christian wanted a one-of-one more than almost anything. So when I found it — a gold vinyl Jalen Suggs rookie, the ultimate version of a card from one of his favorite NBA players — I knew exactly what it had to become.

I found Jalen in the tunnel and asked if he'd sign it. When I told him it was going to be Christian's Christmas present, he didn't hesitate. He signed it beautifully, exactly like you see it now.

I can't fully describe the look on Christian's face when he opened that present. It became the most coveted piece in his entire collection, and it didn't happen because of luck or money. It happened because of years of a kid saying hello, and a player who always said hello back.

Some autographs are transactions.
This one was a friendship, signed in gold.
